Come and join The Modern Calligraphy Co. and learn how to create beautiful lettering in this relaxed and informal class. Modern calligraphy is about lettering that is dynamic and has energy, so rather than worrying about getting every letter identical, you can relax and have fun with it. Creating your own style and enjoying the process is what its all about.
If you have always wanted to try modern calligraphy but youre concerned you don't have nice handwriting or you cant draw, dont worry, that really doesnt matter! We teach you the tricks to turn your hand to modern calligraphy whatever your skill set; and anyway, its the imperfections that make it human, and that is its appeal.
Our 2.5 hour dip pen workshop is specifically designed for beginners. Carefully structured, our lesson plan takes you through guided exercises, creating the letters of the alphabet and turning them into elegant words. Finally, youll work onto our lovely card templates, designed by Kirsten Burke, the UKs leading calligrapher.
Well build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make modern calligraphy so beautiful. By the end of the class youll have progressed from making basic strokes to being able to connect letter forms and create your own calligraphic words and phrases.
All your worksheets and templates are yours to keep, so you can continue to practice your calligraphy with them at home.
As well as guiding the whole class with demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition and troubleshooting any issues you may come across.
Throughout the workshop youll learn about letterforms, use metallics, and try some colour blending. With these techniques in your repertoire, you'll soon be creating greeting cards, party invitations and artworks for your home and loved ones!
All the materials youll need are provided, and refreshments will be available throughout.
We have a small shop at our studio, stocking some of our favourite calligraphy supplies, including the items you will have used during your workshop, so that you can continue your calligraphy journey at home!
