A Saturday morning online seminar using WEA Canvas/Zoom programmes. Course ref C3745722

This seminar will examine and assess the life of T.E. Lawrence or 'Lawrence of Arabia' focusing on his work as an archaeologist, army officer, diplomat and writer. Initially, we shall examine Lawrence's early life before going on to assess his role in the Arab Revolt and the Sinai and Palestine Campaign against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. We shall also look at Lawrence's post-war career and life as a writer and explore the breadth and diversity of his activities and associations, while concluding with a discussion of Lawrence's historical reputation and depictions of his life primarily through David Lean's oscar-winning film of 1962.
