The Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin touched down on the lunar surface in their lunar module 'Eagle' on July 20, 1969. They were the first of only 12 people to stand on the lunar surface - so far.

Experience a Lunar Mission and learn about the challenges and ingenuity of the Moon Landing Programme The six Apollo missions brought back more than a third of a tonne of Moon rocks, dust and soil and yielded a wealth of valuable scientific information and insights into the origin and evolution of bodies in our Solar System.

In some cases the experiments left behind by the Apollo astronauts carried on providing important data for many years after the last astronauts had left their footprints on the Moon.
